Third win in three games

After two bruising home encounters against WPL and Birkenhead to start the league season, Camp Hill were looking to carry their winning streak into their first away fixture at local rivals West Bridgeford.
With the sun beating down on a very hot and humid day, it was quite clear it was going to take the whole squad to ensure victory.
The game kicked off with both teams battling hard to get the upper hand, Camp Hill however were forced into an early substitution when flanker Fran Dargan was replaced with suspected broken ankle.
The visiting team did not allow this to unsettle them and despite handling errors and nerves on both sides it was Camp Hill that struck first on 14 mins, when great running lines from the backs released Jo Hart to score with her usual finesse right between the posts. 0-7. The next try took 10 mins to come but after some fantastic driving maul work from the forwards, Kerry McCormick dropped over the line to score her first league try for the Chargers. 0-14. Half-time 0-14.

The second half started with the same physicality of the first, but again it was Camp Hill that drew first blood. With some aggressive work from the forward pack, they drove over a 5 metre scrum for no8 Leanne Ashworth to score. 0-21.
Next it was the turn of the backs to grab the glory and returning GB lion Ruth Matta. With good handling from the centre pairing, Ruth broke through West Bridgeford's defensive line to score. Despite flawless kicking throughout the game, Captain Rebecca Lewis hit the post with the conversion. 58mins 0-26.
4mins later England touch player Claire Rylance showed her fancy footwork to score again for the Chargers. After another strong scrum, a textbook centre switch and a fantastic draw and pass from Joanne Smith, Claire hit the gap and powered home for try number five. With Rebecca Lewis making the difficult conversion it took Camp Hill to 0-33 and Rebecca to over 600 points in her Chargers career.
An injury to a West Bridgeford player on 68 minutes caused the game to move pitches, but this did not halt the score line. After some great team play, centre Jo Smith scored within 2 mins of the game restarting. With stand in captain Katie Pittaway taking up the kicking duties, the conversion unfortunately went wide leaving the score at 0-38.
Despite the heavy scoreline it was West Bridgeford who finished the game vying for the final points. A desperate scramble on the try line for their first points of the game was only denied by excellent defensive work by the Chargers to hold up the try. Full-time 0-38.
The team welcomes a weeks break before the top of the table clash on the 12th October against Waterloo.
