All you need to know and a bit more!

Hi Everyone,

Before we get down to the "nitty gritty" we'd like to start off with a bit of information regarding this years Senior Mens and Senior Ladies Players Dinner.

MENS DINNER

As always, the Men's Dinner will be arranged by the current 1XV "Skip" (Mark Newton), he is being assisted by 2XV Captain (Rory "The Elf" Lynch) & 3XV Captain (Russ Baker)

The date of the Dinner is Friday 22nd May and will be held at "The Shrine".

This year, the Guest Speaker will be former England & Leicester Tigers Hooker, George Chuter (pictured). If you've never seen him speak before, he is enormously entertaining! - the format will be a 15 minute speech followed by a Q&A Session from the Floor. George Chuter has said he will answer ANY question on ANY subject, so you've got a little time to prepare something to ask him.

Cost is £25 per head, and will include a 3-Course Dinner. More information will be issued from the 1XV Captain, and Posters will be in The Clubhouse shortly.

However, please be aware that numbers will be STRICTLY limited to 80. It is expected that the Dinner will sell out very quickly, so, if you wish to ensure a place, we strongly advise getting your £25 to any of the Senior Captains ASAP.

Dress code will be No.1's or Jacket & Tie (Club Ties are available from The Shop at £10 each), and if you need to get your hands on a Club Blazer, please see the note further down in the "OFF FIELD STUFF" section.

Tickets are available to all present Senior Players and Alacado**

** there have been a few questions from younger Players asking "who are these Alacado people?" - therefore for the young 'uns amongst you, we'll refer you to The Urban Dictionary definition -

Alacado -
The hangers-on around a rugby club. Usually ex-players who have an inflated opinion of their own sporting prowess in days gone by.

e.g. "We're hosting an end of season dinner: players, and alacado's welcome" - Remind you of anyone ??

Details are as follows;

Date: Sat 13th June 2015
Venue: Hotel based in Shirley/Solihull (TBA)

FROM THE PITCH ......

Firstly, can we say Thank You to all those that braved the cold a few weeks ago and came to watch the very first evening game under the new Floodlights. On a "heavy'ish" pitch Camp Hill Vets had an entertaining evening as they hosted our neighbours Old Edwardians. This was followed by a packed Clubhouse to watch England beat Wales.

After an all too long absence it was great to see a Vets XV back at The Shrine, and it's hoped it won't be too long before they're back in action once again. Huge Thanks to "Keegs", "Ruffy" and "JC" for getting it sorted........can we have the next date ASAP Guys?

With it being International Weekend last Weekend there were only 2 Fixtures played. Last Friday the Colts took advantage of the Floodlights to play a friendly against Shipston upon Stour, the final score being 7-50, and on Saturday the 3XV hosted Bromsgrove Vets, and in a very close and entertaining game, "Broms" Vets were victorious (7-8)

On Sunday, the majority of the Mini's played Dudley Kingswinford, unfortunately, no results have been submitted,

On 7th February, The 1XV made it 2 wins in a row as they beat Moseley Oak RFC. If you were unable to make it to the game, or if you've not had chance to visit the Web Page, below is the Match Report from our resident "Hack"

Saturday 7th February
Camp Hill 1XV (29) Moseley Oak 1XV (21)

A game, which started very uncomfortably for the home side, turned out to be a memorable victory thanks to the efforts of their vastly superior forwards.

In the opening minutes, the referee decided that the first offence of the game was worthy of a yellow card and Camps were deprived of Number 8 Rob Hunt for 10 minutes. This encouraged the visitors who ran in two converted tries before Camps were restored to a full complement.

At 14-0 down the home side could have wilted but they soon fought their way back into the game and started to exert forward pressure that Moseley Oak were unable to match.

A series of scrums in the visitors 22 saw the Moseley pack being continually pushed backwards and the only surprise was that it was winger Marl Lisle who nipped in for the final touch rather than one of the forwards. Barney Edwards converted.

The visitor’s defence was now under great duress and they were forced to concede penalties, which finally resulted in the referee producing his second yellow card of the day, this time to a Moseley Flanker.

There was just time before the break for Camps' to opt for another scrum, drive the opposition back over their own line for replacement Number 8 Gareth Williams to score the try.

Although the conversion was missed Camps were right back in the game, trailing by 2.

Camps, still a man to the good, started the second half as they ended the first. A line out on the Moseley Oak 22 was won cleanly and the forwards set up a rolling maul that carried the opposition all the way back to their goal line and beyond for second row Jan Van Der Walt to claim another try. Scrum half Liam Morrissy added the extras for a 19-14 lead.

To Moseley’s credit, restored to full strength, they managed a try of their own, breaking through the Camp hill centres for another 7-point effort.

The lead, however, lasted barely a minute as Camps stormed back for Barney Edwards to score an opportunist drop goal. Although leading by a single point Camps were well in control of the game, which continued to be played, almost exclusively, in the visitors half.

The bonus point try was scored with another superb forward effort. Hooker Adam Willis took two consecutive strikes against the head and on the second occasion Moseley were again forced back over their own line for Rob Hunt touch down. Barney Edwards converted to complete an excellent Camp Hill victory.

THIS COMING WEEKEND.......

A rare opportunity for all Senior sides to play the same opposition this Saturday. All 3 Senior Teams will play Old Salts. The 1XV are Away, and both the 2XV and 3XV are at Home. All games are 2.15 ko

The 1XV can expect a tough afternoon when they travel on Saturday . Along with Bridgnorth, 'Salts' were tipped as one of the favourites for promotion this Season. Following an opening League Day loss to Stoubridge Lions, Saturdays opposition have gone on to have an excellent Season. Since losing to Stourbridge, the Water Orton based side have suffered only three further defeats, two of at the hands of League Leaders, Bridgnorth. The other was in November, when Try's from Dan O'Grady and a Hatrick from No.8 Rob Hill sealed a close 27-24 victory for Camps' at The Shrine.

This weeks line up see's only a few minor changes to the Squad that beat Moseley Oak. Gareth Williams comes off the bench to take the No. 8 jersey. Curtis Thompson makes his second 1XV appearance at Inside Centre. Returning after illness, Alex "Doris" Richmond comes onto the Bench alongside Austin Bolger and Rob Hill.

SUNDAY....

On Sunday Morning the Micros will be Training, the u7s to u11s will host Old Salts at Home, the u12s and u16s are Training. With everyone at Home, and with visitors arriving the Car Park will be busy. PLEASE could we ask that everybody parks sensibly and with consideration. This is not only to maximise the number of Car Parking spaces, but, more importantly to allow access for an Ambulance, in the unlikely event one is needed.

Finally on the subject of The Car Park, if you are simply dropping off a Player, PLEASE PLEASE do not drive into the Car Park. If they are old enough PLEASE could you drop off at the road, and let your Child walk in, or (if they are very young) PLEASE Park outside the ground and walk them in. As you will know we have a very small drive away, and simply driving in and out to drop off a player clogs up the Car Park and frustrates everyone - Thanks

In the Afternoon, The Ladies host Premiership opposition in the form of Lichfield Ladies in the WRFU Senior Cup.

This will be the final Home Game for our Ladies, and we would like to muster up as much support as is possible. Kick-Off is at 2pm, and as long as the weather is dry, there's a huge chance that the BBQ will be fired up.

So, please make yourself available, and get down to cheer on our "Gals"
