GREATER BIRMINGHAM RFU - CLUB OF THE YEAR

Firstly, we are pleased to announce that the Chairman of The Greater Birmingham RFU, Mr. Mick Lee, travelled to 'The Shrine' this week to present the Club with the 2016/17 Club of The Year.

On behalf of Camp Hill RFC, we would like to say a very big Thank You to all of the Players, Supporters, and countless Volunteers from across all Sections of The Club, who have all contributed to the success - put simply, we would not have received this Award without you!

Head of Playing Affairs, Simon Tansley commented 'It was an absolute honour to accept that award on behalf of each and every one of you all. Keep up the outstanding work folks'

SURVEY ON SATURDAY PARKING AT THE CLUB

Some of you may be aware that a week or so back, via the front of the Web Page we asked you to spare a few seconds answering a very brief survey with regards to SATURDAY Parking - this really didn't offer the information needed to approach the Council with a feasible plan to extend our Car Park.

Apologies if you have already completed it once, but, if you could have another go, it would be appreciated, if you didn't, would you click below? - the more response we get the better our chances

Now, a quick look at last Weekend -

LAST SATURDAY MORNING

A very big Thank You to those that turned up last Saturday to help re-stock the Containers, and help in the moving of one of the new white containers to its new position for use as the Clubs new Physio facility.

There is just a little more work to complete (knocking through from existing Changing Room, connect power & water etc), but, it is hoped that Edwin, Chantelle, Nicki & the Physio Team will be taking up permanent residence in the next few weeks

If you have any skills or services (or a little spare time) that you feel will benefit the Club in anyway, please let us know; all help, no matter how small, will always be very welcome.

RUGBY STUFF FROM LAST WEEKEND

For the fourth consecutive week, the Senior Men fielded 4 sides, and all with replacements on the bench.

(NOTE - If you are unaware, many of our piers, can not, or are struggling to field a 2XV! - hence, being able to field 4 Male sides (it's getting close to 5!!) is a remarkable achievement for a local Community Club like ours.

However, we remain committed to recruiting new players, as well as tempting those who may have 'hung up the boots' to come and join in. So, if you know anyone who is looking to have a run about, be they Senior Men, Ladies or Mini's & Juniors, put them in contact with Simon 'Dog' Tansley at stansley@dmu.ac.uk )

The 1XV were soundly beaten by an extremely strong Burton outfit, the 2XV continued their winning run by beating Broadstreet at Home, the 3XV lost to Edwardian 2XV, and once again, 'Tadpole' and his 4XV Army notched up another 'W', which like the 2XV, makes them undefeated so far this Season!

The Ladies 1XV League game atn Bletchley WRFC was postponed

On the field this Weekend

Before we get onto this Weekend, could we please remind Senior Male Players that Annual Subs are remain overdue!!! - so, unless you have been Sponsored, or pay by Direct Debit, could you please hand your Annual Subs to 'Count' ASAP

Saturday

This Saturday the 1XV host Worcester Wanderers.

After 4 games of the Season, Worcester sit one place above Camp Hill in the table. To date, Worcester have 2 loses (Bromsgrove 37-23, Burton 67 - 24), one Win (Moseley Oak 28-11) and last week, a 6 - 6 draw against Rugby Lions.

It won't go un-noticed that in their first 4 games of the Season, Worcester have already played the sides currently sitting 1st, 2nd and 3rd in Midlands 1 (West), and with the exception of Burton away (as we already know a tough place to go!) have acquitted themselves admirably, hence, we expect yet another tough afternoon at 'The Shrine' - so, please come along and support the Lads, as they very much value the Home support,

Once again, many thanks to Steve 'The Puff' Terrace for the following insight into the history between both Clubs

Worcester Rugby Club was founded in 1871 and are one of our oldest adversaries.
Camp Hill first played them in only our second season 1894/1895 when we played out a scoreless draw.

The two clubs were regular opponents with Worcester generally having the better of things.Indeed when Camp Hill won 6-3 in March 1956 it was the first victory at Worcester since 1947.

The two teams met in the North Midlands Cup final 1978 when Worcester won by 9-0.
Just before Worcester started their march through the leagues, however, the two teams met again in the 1994 final which this time ended in victory for Camps by 17-11.

During the rest of the 1990s Worcester moved up through the leagues gaining promotion to the Premiership in 2004/2005.

Worcester Wanderers was formed in 1999 from the old Worcester 3rd and 4th XVs of Worcester RFC with a view to maintaining and playing amateur rugby. They started at the lowest level and rapidly gained promotion through the league structure and we came across the reformed Club in 2010/2011 in Midlands West 1.

The two Clubs played in the same division for 3 seasons with victories being shared in the first two seasons before a clean sweep for Worcester in 2012/2013 when they gained promotion to the National Leagues.

This Saturday will be our first meeting since then.

1XV vs Worcester Wanderers 1XV (3pm Home)

With one or two players returning from injury, and courtesy of Edwin Knight and his physio Team one or two more recovering from 'knocks' at Burton last Saturday, once again, it's all change!!

After missing last week, Player/Coach Stephen Halbert also returns from injury to complete the pack at Blind Side Flanker.

In the Backs, (yet another injured player) Simon Edwards returns to Stand-Off giving Jonny Betty and Ian Briggs the opportunity to form (we think?) the 5th Centre partnership of this Season.
