Vets vs Aston Old Edwardians - 125th Anniversary Game on 13th October 2018

Report c/o 'Forest'

Last Saturday marked the 125th anniversary of The Clubs very first game against Aston Old Edwardians.

Teddy Parker, a founder Member of Camp Hill, and, the scorer of The Clubs very first Try was present in that game.

After his passing, Teddy's Wife donated a Trophy, which was contested for by the two Clubs in his memory.

For a variety of reasons, over the last few years the fixture unfortunately has not been fulfilled. However, the Vets Management Team have worked extremely hard in the Clubs 125th Anniversary year, and one their major targets being to revive the The Teddy Parker Cup (TPC)

Last Saturday, our Vets 'graced' the 1XV Pitch and hosted their counterparts from 'AOE' for the right to lift the historic trophy, with the winner having the honour of displaying it in their Clubhouse for the next 12-months.

AOE arrived a 'little light' for the Match, but, with 'Camps' having players to spare, and in the true spirit of the game were happy to share. It has been said a number of times that this Seasons Vets Squad would give current 1XV a run for their money, and Saturday was no exception. A pack that could all fit into any MIdlands 1 side, and with a set of Back full of experience (although with a few cobwebs!)

In the early exchanges, 'AOE' held the majority of the possession, but, were unable to break into 'Camps' 22m. Once 'Camps' did manage to get ball in hand, the scores began to come, and at Half-Time, the 'Birthday Boys' were 25-0 to the good.

A swap of Players during the Half Time break, gave 5 Camp Hill players the opportunity to wear the'AOE' colours. As the second half kicked off, an early Try for the Home side was countered by 3 from 'AOE'; with only 10 minutes of the game remaining only 2 scores now separated the sides.

The Half Time swaps now appeared that they may come back to haunt 'Camps', however, the Home side managed to remain resolute, and the final whistle blew with a scoreline of Camp Hill Vets (35) Aston Old Edwardian Vets (17).

With such an important day, there has to be a few Thanks -

Firstly, to the 'AOE' Players and Officials that travelled across to see us. Secondly, to a 'young' set of Camp Hill Players for participating in great spirit, and for being willing to play for either Club. To 'Pogo' for doing a fantastic job of polishing 'The TPC', despite running the risk of it being lost for 12-months to our friends at 'AOE' !

To the Vets Management Team of 'Dog', Steve Downs, Danny Ingram, 'Kimbo' & 'Franky' for organising and support throughout the day; Russ Baker for rousting up extra Players and a Ref!

Finally, a special mention, to 'J.D.' - This fixture now enters its 7th decade, of which, 'J.D.' has played in 5 of them!! Despite being 70-years young, would anybody take put it past him to play in 2-years time, and make it 6 out of 8??

Congratulations Vets, it's going to take a special side to beat this one!
