Fighting Loss At Home to Tamworth
After winning all the matches in last week’s encounter with Old Salts it was to be a turnaround of fortunes at home to a small but strong Tamworth squad.
All games followed a similar pattern with Tamworth having three good runners that caused us a great deal of trouble in defence. In fact their small squad of 8 players seemed to work in their favour as they achieved a good level of continuity throughout. Camps also ran well particularly when in support with some really fast layoff passes to runners coming onto the ball at speed. Jack has been doing this well in recent weeks, but Ben was our stand out player as time and again he worked his way through traffic to get onto the ball carriers shoulder. Where we struggled was the defence – once the Tamworth runners got moving we just couldn’t get hold of the tags in open ground. We seem to be developing two defensive lines which is allowing the opposition to break through and get up to speed making it very difficult to tackle them after that. Some defensive work needed this week to get that solid wall defence back in place so that we pressure and stifle the runners before they can get up to speed.
Overall some really good attack play with other notable performances from Alex, Will and Niall, the latter scoring his first ever try for Camp Hill. He worked very hard all day and could have scored more if not for the last ditch defending from Tamworth. Abbie and Tyler also tried very hard in their games and both were unlucky not to get on the score sheet. Next year’s 8’s are getting stuck in more and more with Toby, Jobe, Dylan, Mackenzie and Oliver showing no fear against older opposition which will put them in good stead for next season.
And finally, a big hello to Owen (OJ) who played in his first game for Camps and looks like a really good prospect for the future!!
Camp Hill 3 – 7 Tamworth (Try scorers: Jack 2, Alex 1)
Camp Hill 4 – 6 Tamworth (Try scorers: Ben 2, Will 1, Jobe 1)
Camp Hill 3 – 4 Tamworth (Try scorers: Jack 1, Joe 1, Jobe 1)
Camp Hill 1 – 4 Tamworth (Try scorers: Niall 1)
Joe, Toby, Dan, Abbie, Alex, Tyler, Owen, Ben, Jobe, Will, Niall, Cian, Dylan, Jack, Benjamin, Oliver, Mackenzie, Owen(OJ).
So some defensive training tomorrow I think!!
See you there,
