In September 2009, a Scandinavian School, Gateway College, revamped the hall of the Camps Bay Sports Club, creating two versatile classrooms. Using these classrooms “The Richard Allen Foundation” will become an after-school program. Selected children from Imizamo Yethu (Informal Settlement in Hout Bay) and Hout Bay Harbour will be transported straight from school to the Camps Bay Club. These classrooms will be used as a “Homework Room” for these children.
Starting from 2010, the plan is to transport the boys straight from school to the club, where they will have one and a half to two hours to focus on academics before training. The boys will be served with a nutritional lunch, and will be constantly supervised by at least two tutors. The academic focus, as well as the nourishment and football training will provide a structured lifestyle for these children at least twice a week.
We have selected 40 boys from all over Cape Town to be part of this initiative.
The Foundation is a Section 21 company (Non- Profit Organisation), as the Richard Allen Foundation’s primary aim is social upliftment to the impoverished areas of Hout Bay (namely Hout Bay Harbour and Imizamo Yethu).
