History

The Corinthians were founded in 1898 when members of the Alpha Cricket Club decided to form a football team to keep in touch during the Winter months. For the first six seasons they played only friendlies from their base in Sophia Gardens before joining the Rhymney Valley League. They won the Welsh Amateur Cup in 1914.
After the Great War they established a new home at Pengam Farm, Tremorfa and in 1921 took the bold step of joining the professional Western League. Travelling expenses were high so they opted to join the the Welsh League in 1924 to ease the burden on the players who were paying for their own travelling.
The Corries were forced to move grounds just before the Second World War. They settled in Llandaff Road Canton and in the 60's and 70's they were up and down like yo-yo's.although in the late 70's they finished runners-up in the Premier Division, a feat repeated in 1982.More glory came in 1985 when they won the Amateur Cup.
These highs on the field seemed nothing compared to the club's frantic search for a permanent home when the Canton ground was lost.
The Corinthians were allowed to play on an unenclosed pitch at Pontcanna for one season. Then they had a season at Maindy Stadium and a couple at Fidlas Avenue, Llanishen.In1974 they negotiated a ground share with Radyr Cricket Club which brought stability.
Over the years the Corries have produced some notad players including Tom Forse, Neil O' Halloran, Ritchie Morgam, Nick Deacy and Wales keeper Graham Vearncombe.
More recently, after being demoted from the first division, the club were languishing at the bottom of division two for some years but in 2007/08 we achieved promotion to Division 1 after finishing third in division 2. We aim to become established in this division.
The club is proud that it is still 100 per cent amateur.
