American Football coming to Warwick Road

Carlisle Sentinels American Football establishing themselves.

Negotiations are being finalised with the newly formed Carlisle Sentinels American Football Club, who will be based at CRFC. Their presence won't interfere with rugby, with their games being on a Sunday afternoon in the summer months.

All participants will be full members of Carlisle RFC, and the presence of the new club will add vibrancy to the activities at our Warwick Road HQ. In addition to matches, they will also train there (during the summer), but seeking an alternative venue during the winter period.

Apart from the usual associated benefits with folk using our facilities, there may be the added benefit of another "string to our bow" when we apply for maintenance grants.

Some may say, American Football was tried before in Carlisle and it didn't work! The indications are that this time will be different. The first year of their activity is as associate members of their parent organisation, thereafter they will have a comprehensive league programme - but with no more than five home games.

To the purists, fear not; we are not selling the family silver, simply finding additional income streams to finance rugby.
