Carlton Town won their first friendly of the summer with a 4-1 win against Coalville Town at Stoke Lane.

The Ravens, featuring a host of ex-Millers including manager Tommy Brookbanks, have just been promoted to the Premier Division and so were the ideal test for Wayne Scott's side following their narrow defeats against Mansfield and Notts County.

The visitors had the best of the early exchanges and Jack Steggles did well to deny Joel Wolfe after the Coalville man raced through on goal.

But it was the home side who took the lead on 29 minutes when Jake Wholey's quick free kick found Danny Gordon. He laid the ball inside to Kevin Lusamba who stroked a left foot shot into the top corner.

Coalville levelled 10 minutes later when former Carlton captain Alexander Troke headed home Callum Woodward's corner.

The Millers regained the lead a minute from the break when Gordon was brought down by Jarrod Holmes and got up to fire home the resultant penalty.

Josh Rae made it 3-1 on the hour after a ;lovely flowing move involving Lusamba, Wholey and Gordon. It was the latter who had the first shot on goal but when Lee Torr blocked the ball, it fell to Rae whose 25-yard effort was deflected over Sean Bowles.

The best goal of the game was saved until six minutes from time when Steggles's clearance was headed onto Rae who flicked the ball into the path of Kyle Stovell. Stovell hit a fantastic volley from outside the area which flew into the top corner and completed an enjoyable afternoon for the Millers.
