Former England manager Graham Taylor has died today aged 72.

Taylor, who enjoyed great success in double spells at Watford and Aston Villa, came to Stoke Lane as the Carlton Town guest speaker in December 2011. This was the article written at the time:

"Graham Taylor was the guest of honour at last Friday's Christmas lunch and he had the sell-out audience spellbound with his recollections and stories.

Taylor, accompanied by the ever-entertaining Darren Fletcher of 5 live, went into intimate detail of his time as manager of Lincoln City, Watford, Aston Villa and of course England.

He told the captivated crowd of his dealings with Elton John, Doug Ellis and the British media to name but a few as he covered a side of football very few of us ever really get to hear about.

It was a spellbinding couple of hours, and after finishing his address he then stayed around chatting to those present for well over an hour.

It was a privilege to listen to him and the next guest speaker has a lot to live up to.

Pictures from the evening from myself and Tim are now on site."

Photographs were taken - they can be found here.

Taylor went onto to be a well-respected analyst and co-commentator on BBC 5 live with opinions that were never dull and always relevant. He will be sorely missed.

The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Carlton Town are with all of Graham's family and friends. RIP.
