MILLERS FIGHTBACK FALLS SHORT

Carlton Town staged a second half fightback but couldn't end their winless streak as they went down 3-2 at Sheffield.

The Millers were dreadful in the first half and found themselves 3-0 down at half time. Zephania Thomas opened the scoring in the second minute with a spectacular shot from distance before Joel Purkiss doubled the lead just eight minutes later, latching onto Jamie Walker's back-header and lobbing Curtis McDonald.

It looked game over when Thomas headed home unmarked shortly before half time, but the Millers gave the vocal travelling support something to cheer on 65 minutes when substitute Antonio Wedderburn turned home Walker's corner.

Their hopes of getting something from the match increased with five minutes to go when Aaron Hooton took advantage of a slip in the home defence to fire an excellent strike into the Sheffield net, but despite laying siege to the Club goal and seeing goalkeeper McDonald come up for the final free kick, the home side were able to hold on.

It's now 12 matches without a win for Les McJannet's side and he will hope his reign at Stoke Lane will end with a win when the Millers travel to Brigg Town for his final game in charge on Saturday.
