A second half goal from Reece Leek was enough to condemn Carlton Town to a 1-0 home defeat against unbeaten league leaders Sutton Coldfield Town.

Leek headed home a 62nd minute corner just minutes after Carlton's Alexander Troke had headed against the crossbar in a pivotal part of the game.

The result was harsh on the Millers. In a tight but entertaining encounter Carlton's recent improvement in form continued as they outplayed the visitors in the first half only for a combination of poor finishing and good defending keeping the game goalless.

In the second period the Royals improved after they had taken the lead, and the Millers were grateful to goalkeeper Curtin McDonald for one fine double-save in particular from Leek and Graham Deakin.

Carlton went closest to equalising 10 minutes from time when Aaron Hooton brought a fine one-handed save out of Lee Evans, but the Royals were able to see the game out and maintain their leadership of the First Division South.

Carlton remain in 19th position with seven points from 10 games. They are next in action on Saturday, away at Chasetown.

A full report will appear tomorrow.
