Carlton Town surrendered a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 at Cleethorpes Town in the FA Cup this afternoon.

In what is fast becoming a farcical situation, the Millers once again led 2-1 away from home, as they had done in two of their other three away games this season - indeed, in today's game they led 2-0.

But the inability to stop conceding goals - this was the fourth time in four away games that Carlton have let in three goals - added to the spurning of some glorious opportunities to kill the game meant that the home side were able to secure their place in the next round against their higher-ranked opponents thanks to two Jordan Robertson strikes in the last four minutes.

Carlton started well enough and were ahead on 13 minutes when Junior Ogede-Uzokwe chipped Damian Steer delighfully after fine work by Jamie Walker.

Carlton had a double stroke of fortune on 26 minutes. First, goalkeeper Luke Cook was very lucky to only receive a yellow card after hauling down Marc Cooper and then Jack Debnam screwed the resulting penalty horribly wide.

The Millers seemed to capitalise on that let-off when Ogede-Uzokwe slotted home Walker's lay-off.

But after a couple of glaring misses of their own, the Owls pulled a goal back just before half time when Cooper volleyed home a Robertson cross.

The second half saw both sides miss fantastic opportunities to score with Robertson the chief culprit for Cleethorpes and Aaron Hooton twice missing when clean through for the Millers.

With just four minutes remaining Carlton conceded a free kick for an unnecessary off-side. Cleethorpes hit the ball deep into the area, Cooper flicked on and Robertson converted from close range.

There was more drama to come when, with the game into the third minute of stoppage time, Cleethorpes once again pumped a free kick into the danger area and Robertson once again found himself with time and space to secure the comeback win.

This was a bitterly disappointing afternoon for the travelling Millers support, who included super-fan Dennis amongst their number, and they can only hope for improvements in a league campaign which resumes next Saturday with a home game against Norton Utd.

A full match report and photos will appear over the weekend.
