In what was a competitive friendly fixture, the students, managed by former Millers goalkeeper Ali Barcherini, more than matched the Millers at times, and Carlton were grateful to Under 19s goalkeeper Louis Cook for some fine saves.
He made the first of those saves on 9 minutes when he tipped a fierce drive over the crossbar.
Griffith Junior opened the scoring on 28 minutes when he slotted home Ryan Goward’s through ball.
Cook was called upon just before half time to make another fine stop.
On 62 minutes Ricky Gardner anticipated a short goal kick from the opposition, won the ball and cracked home a spending drive from the edge of the box.
There followed a number of substitutions and Les McJannet introduced two more Academy players, Raheem Gordon and Jervel Foster, into the side.
Cook made a couple of fine saves, including one excellent double stop, to ensure Carlton left the field with a clean sheet.
