Evan bags treble but Wesleyans triumph
Defeat for Carmel in final match of the season
Evan Collett produced a brilliant bowling performance as Carmel's Friendly XI ended the club's 2017 season with a hard-fought defeat to Windsor Wesleyans.
The visitors were dismissed for 155 in 38 overs after they had won the toss at Pen-y-Gelli and elected to bat.
Left-arm seamer Collett caused the Wesleyan batsmen plenty of problems as he snaffled 3-24 - his best bowling figures to date - to finish the pick of the attack.
It also took the youngster's tally to 10 wickets in an impressive debut season at senior level having been the star performer with the ball for the club's U13 team.
Alec Davies (2-10) bagged a brace of wickets while fellow leg-spinner Nick White captured 1-5.
Matt Bodman (1-38) and Osian Tennant (1-10) and Rich Collett (1-31) were the other wicket takers while the former also claimed a run out.
Davies (33) led the way with the bat after tea before being judged to have edged to the wicketkeeper.
However, wickets fell at regular intervals as several batsmen failed to fire.
White (19) and skipper Timothy Abraham (18) added some degree of respectability before an inspired cameo from Nick Hughes.
The all-rounder cracked a quickfire 31* as he gave Carmel hope of a famous victory in a last-wicket stand with Evan Collett (3).
But in the fading gloom the younger Collett was unable to put the gloss on a fine display as he was bowled for 3 and Carmel were ultimately dismissed for 131 - 25 runs short.
