Rain frustrates Third XI
NWCL Third XI League game abandoned after heavy showers at Pen-y-Gelli
Carmel's Third XI players were left kicking their heels after their clash with Mochdre was abandoned because of heavy rain showers with the match finely poised.
A disciplined fielding display from the home side after skipper Alun Davies had lost the toss saw the visitors restricted to 144-8.
Left-armer Evan Collett (2-30) did the early damage while father Richard Collett (1-17) also picked up a wicket.
Leg-spinner Rohit Kaimal then took over as he finished the pick of the attack with 3-35 from his nine overs.
David Goddard (1-31) also bagged himself a wicket and showed swift hands in the field to claim a run out.
Showers drifted in at the end of Mochdre's innings but conditions were good enough for play to continue after the tea break.
Openers Ben Sim and Cameron Ackroyd were watchful to ensure Carmel laid a solid platform for the chase.
Sim (24*) grew in confidence after a testing opening period and he an Ackroyd (6*) shared an unbroken first-wicket stand of 34 in 13.5 overs before weather conditions took a turn for the worst.
With no further prospect of play likely the captains shook hands on the draw and both sides collected three points.
