Daf unable to bail out Second XI
Spirited effort but Pont come out on top
Dafydd Bailey compiled his first half-century of the season but Carmel's Second XI suffered a 39-run defeat to Pontblyddyn.
The Premier Division clash was reduced to 37 overs a side following rain and the hosts elected to bat first after they won the toss at Alder Meadow.
Carmel's attacked bowled accurately, though, and restricted Pont to 167-9.
Steve 'Scooter' Jones (3-44) did the early damage along with Dafydd Timothy (1-34).
Richard Collett (1-41) and Bryn Jones (1-25) also picked up one apiece before Luke Bodman (3-15) got stuck into the tail end.
Wicketkeeper Bailey and skipper Gareth Roberts (13) gave Carmel a solid platform for the chase after the tea interval.
Jonathan Fisher (21) also chipped in with some valuable runs as he and Bailey guided Carmel towards the 100-mark.
Bailey reached fifty but was only able to eight more runs to his tally before he was caught and his departure saw a clatter of wickets which proved the precursor to defeat.
Bryn Jones (16) briefly threatened to swing the game Carmel's way with some lusty blows, on his Second XI debut, but he was the only other player to make double figures as Carmel were bowled out for 128 in 35.2 overs.
