Brilliant Bailey bashes Brymbo
Wicketkeeper's unbeaten knock boosts survival hopes
Dafydd Bailey struck an unbeaten 62 as Carmel's Second XI earned a hard-fought 14-run win over Brymbo.
Skipper Christopher Jones won the toss and his decision to bat first paid off as Carmel posted 182-5 from their 45 overs.
Openers Richard Jones (58) and Bailey both made half-centuries as they laid the foundation for the total with a first-wicket partnership of 113.
Gareth Roberts (21) and Nick Hughes (15) chipped in with valuable middle-order runs but it was Bailey's determined knock which proved crucial.
The wicketkeeper-batsman hit four fours and one six as he batted for the entire innings.
Dafydd Timothy (1-15) then produced a miserly spell after the tea interval to give Carmel an early breakthrough.
Lee Rowles (1-45) and Connor Hughes (0-38) also bowled well to keep Brymbo's run rate down.
And scoreboard pressure proved decisive as Nick Hughes (3-31) and Osian Tennant (3-13) were able to strike at key times.
Brymbo ultimately finished on 168-8 from their 45 overs as Carmel closed out the contest.
