Dan's the man in Northop defeat
Youngster Dan Sim (48) helps First XI salvage two points to boost survival hopes
Carmel's First XI on are on the brink of survival in NWCL Division One after Dan Sim's 48 helped them secure two valuable points in a six-wicket loss to Northop.
It means that victory in either of Carmel's final two matches - against Bersham (September 3rd) or Buckley (September 10th) - will safeguard the club's place in the division.
Home skipper Barry Mcgauty elected to bat after he won the toss against his former club, but the loss of early wickets left Carmel in trouble.
Five out of the top six batsmen - Alec Davies (10), Dylan Campbell (1), Richard Jones (5), Danny Owens (5) and Timothy Abraham (8) - failed to make an impact.
But Sim's patient and determined approach saw him make a season's best knock for the First XI to hold the innings together.
His 77-run stand with Mcgauty (25) helped rescue Carmel from 41-5 to 118-6 while some late hitting from brother Ben Sim (11) saw Carmel post 146 in 49.1 overs.
Carmel's bowlers initially found wickets hard to come by as Northop progressed to 76 without loss before Ben Sim (1-29) struck courtesy of a fine catch by Owens.
Campbell showed his brilliance in the field to claim a run out before an athletic Owens did likewise.
Davies (1-21) reduced Northop to 133-4 thanks to a clean pair of hands from Dan Sim at cover, but a fifth wicket proved elusive.
