Super Saynor cleans up Mold
All-rounder ensures new season starts with thrilling victory
Oliver Saynor (4-5) claimed his best figures for Carmel's First XI as Mold were beaten by 17 runs in the Division One season opener.
Stand-in skipper Alec Davies lost the toss and asked to bat first at Pen-y-Gelli Carmel posted a modest 104 all out from 47.1 overs.
Gwion Dafydd held the innings together as he top scored with a patient 25 from 67 balls.
Debutants Nick White (13) and Matt Nash (11) were the only other players to make double figures.
Mold looked to be cruising at 61-2 following early wickets for Nash (3-13).
But a tight spell of leg spin from Aussie White, who bowled seven maidens to finish with 1-11 from his allotted 12 overs, heaped the pressure on the visitors.
Derek Johnson (1-17) and Jack Whitehouse (1-24) gave Carmel hope before Saynor took over to devestating effect.
The powerful all-rounder proved the key man as he demolished the Mold tail end in a four-over spell which yielded four wickets as the visitors were skittled for 87.
