Timothy and Jones punish Pont
Vital victory in battle to beat the drop
Dafydd Timothy took 4-18 and Christopher Jones hit a season's best 42 as Carmel's 2nd XI beat relegation rivals Pontblyddyn.
The visitors won the toss and elected to field at Pen-y-Gelli but saw the home side post 179-7 from their 45 overs.
Carmel openers Carl Badger-Watts (32) and Jon Fisher (37) got the innings off to a good start.
However, Jones led the way for the hosts as he top scored with a crucial knock of 42 which held together the middle order.
Nick Hughes also continued his rich run of form with the bat as he chipped in with a useful 35 late in the innings.
Hughes (1-25) then gave Carmel an early breakthrough after tea as he and son Connor (1-26) claimed important wickets.
Skipper Timothy was the pick of the attack as he decimated the Pontblyddyn middle order and finished with an impressive 4-18 from his nine overs - the last of which took him to 1,900 career wickets for the club.
Carmel's fielding proved equally sharp as Richard Sim, Connor Hughes and Mike O'Grady all claimed run outs.
Wicketkeeper Jones then took off the gloves and pocketed 1-22 with the ball as Pont folded for 111 in 31 overs.
