We recently held our annual Presentation Dinner at Pine Lake Resort and despite low numbers a great night was had.
Following the Carvery Meal the speeches took place:
2ND XV SKIPPER KEVIN HARDY - Kevin thanked all the players who had taken part during a tough season for the 2nds. Praise was given to all the players who turned out with Keith Lovering, Steve Mallett, Clayton Stevens, Stuart Harrison and Donald Haddow all mentioned. The victories over Burnley 3rds and Clitheroe 2nds were the highlights although pushing Leigh 4ths at home in the league was up there. The biggest disappointment was the concede of a fixture - the first time in many a year. Kevin is stepping down as 2nd team captain after several years in charge and we thank him for his great efforts over the years.
1ST XV SKIPPER DAVE HONES - Dave again thanked all the players who had turned out in a first team shirt in what was a difficult season on the playing side. He thanked Gavin Barton for his excellent efforts as club coach and all the players who gave their 100% throughout the year. The semi final defeat was a disappointment, the victories that were gained during the season stood out but Dave praised the 18 players who travelled to Birchfield late in the season - a tough day for selection with so many players not available.
CLUB CHAIRMAN PHIL ALDRIDGE - Phil in his role as Club Chairman thanked both skippers and the club coach for their efforts over the season. Phil praised Kevan Holden as Social Secretary and Brad Wheatman who took over as Club Secretary at the start of the season. Phil thanked Louise Hardy for the after match teas and June Barton for the laundry - 2 thankless jobs. Phil stressed the matter for improvement for player availability next season if the club is to progress.
CLUB COACH GAVIN BARTON - Gavin continued in the above speeches by thanking players and club personnel who had assisted him over the seasons he had been club coach. Dave and Kevin were congratulated on their captaincy roles - Gav thanked many players including Alex Albiston, Donald Haddow, Dan Blenkharn, Josh Wilson, John Greenland, Eric Buckley, Shaun Hodgson, Joe Harrison, Matty McGuire, Craig Walker, Steve Mallett and Jack Edmondson. Gav thanked John Edmondson for his committment over the years.
