A single goal from Conor Doherty was enough to secure the win against their league leaders on Friday night
Carniny welcomed league leaders Woodvale to the Showgrounds on Friday night which turned out to be a Fascinating encounter. Woodvale started brightly with strong running putting the Carniny full backs under pressure. There was an early warning sign for Carniny when Woodvale hit the post with a powerful strike. This woke Carniny up. Looking to play on the counter attack the Ballymena boys ny looked a threat going forward with Doherty and Herbison having half chances. Carniny took the lead with the ball being slotted home by Conor Doherty in very crowded penalty box.
The second half began with Woodvale pressing forward and had a number chances but were unable to convert with Katinas making a number of saves. Woodvale had the home side pressed in but the reds defence worked tirelessly to make sure any danger was dealt with. Carniny had a chance to double their lead when a Matthew McComb free kick was saved. With the game stretched to the limit and in the dying minutes Carniny should have scored when a set piece was met by Calum McGall who couldn’t steer his header towards goal. A very hard working performance with another three points to keep the pressure on the league leaders.
