The Under 15s put a severe dent in Linfield's title aspirations with a 2-1 home victory over the 'Blues' last Saturday

Carniny picked up their first win of the season and what a way to do it!

Carniny scored two early goals to stun Linfield in the first twenty minutes of the game, and two great goals they were. The first coming from Connell Lemon after some good build up play on the edge of the box from James Reid who worked the ball and laid it off on a plate for Lemon to loop it over the keeper who just tipped it under the bar and into the back of the net. This had Linfield stunned who then pressed Carniny and threatened. Carniny continued to create chances and again on the edge of the box the ball broke to Johnny Cummings who struck the ball just inside the right post and past the Linfield keeper. At this stage Linfield started to threaten and went looking for a goal but Carniny held strong with their back four again putting in a great performance. Carniny kept the Linfield attack at bay and still had a few chances on the break but then Linfield won a free kick on the wing and from resultant the cross scored as the Carniny defence were caught like statues from the set piece. Carniny made it to half time keeping the score at 2-1.

In the second half again Linfield went looking for an equaliser but Carniny’s defensive backline gave them nothing with Conor Pogue, Aaron Weir, Jack Livingstone and Austin Reid all putting in great tackles. Throughout the game keeper Peter Gillespie kept Carniny in the lead with some great saves. Credit also goes to the midfield of Captain Lee Scroggie, Stuart Nixon, Connell Lemon and Jordan Millar who threatened and worked the ball and broke up Linfield’s play and created some great attacks for the front pair of Johnny Cummings and James Reid who threatened throughout the game and gave Linfield’s defenders a difficult day. Changes were made in the game up front and in midfield with Adam Mairs who ran at Linfield and tormented them with his pace and Matthew Shevlin who got in and around the box and on the end of Mairs’ crosses.

It was a great day for the Under 15’s and a great overall team performance for a team who have had a difficult season but have stuck at it all year and credit goes to them all.
