SCULLION HAT TRICK ENOUGH FOR 16s
A hat trick from Aidan Scullion saw the 16s claim a win over Bertie Peacock Youth on Friday night at the Showgrounds
Carniny were looking to get another 3 points after their last match and win against Coleraine Academy. With a depleted squad due to sickness, a few of the younger Carniny players were given a chance to prove themselves.
Carniny started well and passed the ball about freely. Both Scullion and Butler went close with their headers. Aidan Scullion then gained a penalty after he was brought down by the keeper. He stepped up and duly converted it to make it 1-0. Young, McConigle , B Gray and Butler at the back looked solid and took the pressure off Logan in goals. The midfield of Robinson, Holba, J Gray and Hunter was strong and took the game to Bertie’s and supplying the front two of Groocock and Scullion. First half finished 1-0 despite a lot of Carniny pressure.
The second half Bertie's came into the game more and at just 1-0 the game was always in the balance. The Bertie’s keeper was in great form and pulled off some super saves from Scullion, Groocock and J Gray. Groocock then seen his long range effort come off the post when it looked goal bound. Aidan Scullion then got his second from great build up play and a low drive that this time the keeper could not reach to make it 2-0. Scullion rounded off his hat trick with a rare header from a Hunter corner to make it 3-0. Coulter, Johnston and Steele came on for some valuable experience and did not look at all out of place despite their younger age.
Another good performance from Carniny. They now face a strong Crusaders team who look favourites for the league.
