A determined performance from the Under 16s saw them kick off their season with a win
Carniny started the new season with a cup match against Greenisland at 3 mile water. Greenisland started the brighter but just when Carniny were starting to get a hold of the match debutant keeper Gibson was sent off after eight minutes for handing the ball outside his area. With right back McAuley slotting into nets and Carniny down to ten men it was Carniny who took the lead on 15 minutes when Balmer played Steele through who slotted the ball past the keeper. McAuley pulled off two brilliant saves at the end of the first half to keep the score 1-0.
Greenisland scored on 48 minutes to level the score 1-1. It was McAuley again with 10 minutes to go who pulled off another save to keep the score level. With five minutes to go and Greenisland now having most of the ball it looked likely they would score but Carniny hit them on a counter attack when once again Balmer picked the ball up in midfield ran at their defence and played through McGall who shot low to the keeper’s right into the bottom corner.
A well deserved win for the Carniny lads who all played well showing great character having to play most of the game with 10 men.
