WEE REDS COME BACK TO TAKE MINI DERBY WIN
The U14s came back from a goal down to secure a 3-1 derby win over Ballymena Utd
The game started evenly with both defences looking nervous and each side had opportunities to score. The Ballymena keeper pulled off 2 two excellent saves and Luke Elliott was ever dependable on 1v1 situations. A good run from midfield from Ballymena led to a long shot that was saved. The Ballymena no.9 reacted quicker and slotted home on 25 mins.
A reshuffle in formation steadied Carniny in the second half and they forced a corner. Luis White’s corner swung in and Harry Ross got the deftest of touches for the ball to head goal-wards off a Ballymena defender. A good save from Elliott was followed up with a long clearance. The bounce deceived the Blues defence and White raced clear to slot home for the lead. Great work in midfield from Ashton Thompson and Matthew Millar helped Carniny control the game from then on and a clearance from Daniel Hayburn reached Peter Martin. His ball down the left found White in the corner. Despite three defenders around him, he wriggled clear and fired home for 3-1. More pressure on Ballymena and a reckless challenge on Zach Irwin led to a penalty. White stepped up but shot wide and missed the chance of his hat trick.
A game that Carniny took a while to prove their dominance but a good win to make it three wins from their last three games. Higher intensity needed in the games to come.
