PLEASING WIN FOR 14s
With Carniny’s squad now stretched due to a host of injuries, the lads were challenged to play in different positions. Controlling the game from the start, the quick feet of Matthew Millar and probing runs from Ashton Thompson were causing Immaculata problems and a corner was forced after 10 mins. Millar swung it in and the ball was cleared to the edge of the box. Daniel Hayburn collected and intelligently laid the ball wide to Noah Scullion. His cross cum shot looped over the keeper who could only tip it into his own net. Another corner after 20 mins was swung in by Millar and headed home from 5 yards by Tom Wylie. A few long balls were easily dealt with by the Carniny defence and Luke Elliott was largely untroubled.
Second half began in similar fashion and the boys played some neat 1-2’s keeping control of the game. A great tackle by the impressive Joel Aitcheson released Thompson. He ran 15 yards and unleashed an unstoppable 30 yarder to reinforce Carniny’s dominance. A final corner was met by the head of Harry Ross but his effort was well parried by Immaculata keeper.
A fantastic team performance, with all the boys playing for each other and difficult to pick a man of the match as not one of them shirked a challenge and played some great football as well. A hugely enjoyable start to the weekend.
