Carterton Rangers vs. North Leigh A
Promotion Hopes Dented
Match report by Mark Dover
Rangers promotion ambitions took a severe knock when they were held to a 2 – 2 draw at home to lowly North Leigh A. The game was pretty even from the start, with the visitors showing that they were not afraid to attack their high-flying hosts.
Rangers that nearly took the lead in the 10th minute, when Adam Lee spotted the visiting keeper off his line and went close with an audacious long-range lob. However, two minutes later the deadlock was broken when Dan Hall scored with a stunning trademark shot from 20 yards to put Rangers 1 – 0 up.
Back came North Leigh, and following a series of corners, Mike Pratley finally got his head to one and nodded the ball past Daniel Floyd in the Rangers goal to bring the scores level.
Rangers regained the lead just before the interval, when, following a corner of their own , the ball was only half cleared to Macdonogh who fired it back into the visitors penalty area, where Jonny Dover reacted the quickest by turning and striking the ball into the net.
In the second half, Rangers missed a number of opportunities to increase their lead, Ben Pearce being particularly unlucky to see his long range effort beat the keeper but come back of the bar.
These missed chanced were to prove costly, when with just 7 minutes remaining, James Dover was unfortunate when his goal line clearance struck his hand and the ref awarded a penalty to North Leigh. Tom Radburn duly dispatched to earn the visitors a very well deserved share of the points.
