Carterton Rangers vs. FC Hollybush
Hollybush Curse Hits Rangers Again
Match Report By Jonny Dover
Saturday 27th March saw Rangers go toe to toe with Hollybush, a team they have failed to beat in 5 previous attempts in the league. Last time the two sides met, it was Bush who ended up taking all 3 points; Rangers needed this win to remain in with a chance in the tight promotion battle.
The game started really well for Rangers, playing some really good football and having most possession for the first 10 minutes. Having started very flat, Bush started to get hold of the ball a lot more and looked the more threatening to score. On about the 30 minute mark Robinson burst from centre back and cooly finished Hollybush's first chance on goal after a nice one two with the striker. 1-0 Hollybush.
Not long after, Joe Collett gave away a silly free kick outside Rangers box and it was once again Rangers inability to deal with a set piece that saw them fall further behind. It was a brilliant ball whipped in for an unmarked Robinson to head home, making the score 2-0.
Moments before the half time whistle saw the move of the match as Rangers played some very nice quick football. The keeper playing the ball to the fullback who quickly turned and rolled it through to Tom Hall. Halls first touch was brilliant as always, was able to turn his man and find Jamie MacDonogh who's first time flick played through Jonny Dover who calmly slotted it bottom right, 2-1 half time.
After bringing one back just before half time, Rangers went into the second half with a bit of momentum and hoping to grab an early equaliser. The wind had picked up second half, going across the field, spoilt the game for both sides, but each team were battling on.
Rangers had to get the equaliser to push on with their promotion hope, were pushing forward more and more leaving themselves exposed at the back. With about 15 minutes to go, Hollybush broke through on a goal scoring opportunity but was pulled back by Adam Lee, the referee had no choice but to send him off.
A couple half chances for both teams but no real keeper testers, saw out the rest of the game, with Hollybush winning both meetings against Rangers 2-1.
