Hailey Res vs. Carterton Rangers
That Makes 6 In A Row!!!!
Going into the game Rangers were in their worst ever form, having not won a league game in 5 attempts and hoping for a change in luck when visiting bottom of the league and winless Hailey Res.
With the Junior cup semi final on Tuesday, the manager decided against a more relaxed approach to the game where positions were pick out of a hat and great fun was had by everyone, instead opting to name everyone in the correct position in prep for Tuesday.
The opening 10 minutes were open with both teams trying the move the football, but only finding players in the opponents shirts. It was a mistake from Evans which led to the first goal, with him failing to take a touch with the ball rolling under his foot and into the path of the wide open Hailey forward. The onrushing forward saw his shot saved well by Bishop in the Rangers goal, only for the follow up to be tapped in.
Within 5 minutes they had doubled their lead when a deep ball from left back was pinged into the box and met by the head of Manning to expertly loft the ball over the head of the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
Hailey capped a dominant 10 minute spell with a third goal, this time Gonzales was allowed to turn on the edge of the box and power the ball into the far corner.
The rest of the half evened out with neither team doing much, with the only note being Alex Collett going off after taking a nasty wack to the head (hungover) and was unable to carry on.
With a very poor first 45, the rally cry was to go out there and out things right. unfortunately with most the team looking leggy for the previous nights drinking, we still failed to create anything.
As the game was drawing to a close and after Hailey had missed 3 open goals and several good chances Rangers finally had something to cheer about. Super sub and MOTM Craig Johnson took control of a free kick in a dangerous position after the Hailey goalkeeper had almost decapitated Floyd. Up stepped CJ to whip in a perfect ball onto the head of Jonny Dover who powered it past the flapping Hailey keeper.
Hailey ran out well deserved 3-1 winners and Rangers maintained their record of scoring in every game this season.
