All smiles again at Borras
New look Colts wrap up League season with great win
A much changed Colts destroyed Borras unbeaten home record, and maybe their Title hopes, with a superb performance to wrap up the League season.
We fielded only 5 players who started at Borras the previous week,in goal came Pete Olsson, then Dan Rutter and Kurtis, we brought Josh Price,Alan Rocke and Dean into midfield.Josh was given the job of marking the dangerous Barry Torrence, and he did it magnificently.
We started well, looking confident and up for the tough battle ahead.
We were looking dangerous up front with Dan Hughes twice going close,
and opened the scoring when Dean Jones found himself free in the box
to sidefoot into the corner from 10 yards on 13 minutes. Borras must
have thought 'you bastard' and they were right.
We suffered a big blow only 3 minutes later when Kurtis went down in a challenge with Niall Chaloner, and suffered a dislocated elbow. He was taken off to hospital, where it was re-set and poor Kurt is in plaster
and misses the Cup Final on Wednesday. We hope he recovers quickly.
Rutter was moved to centre defence, Dean to left back and Elliot came into Left midfield. Borras started to create and we had to thank Pete
Olsson for some excellent stops, and one incredible save when he pushed
a Stuart Williams effort over the bar.
We soon settled down again with Leon commanding things from the back,
and Dan Hughes struck the post before Bulla scored, but the Ref disallowed the goal for offside- a poor decision. Bulla then had a shot
cleared off the line before we extended our lead just on half time when
Rockon's corner was headed home by ARON ROBERTS.HT 0 - 2
We looked resilient in the early part of the second half as Borras worked hard to get back in the game,Olsson again coming to the rescue with a fantastic stop on the line, Dean seemed to get in the way of every shot, our defending was excellent.
As Borras put more pressure on we were finding lots of space on the break, and Bulla was tormenting the home defence with some magical runs.
From Dean's long clearance on 68 minutes,DAVID BULLOUGH picked up the ball in his own half and ran into the box before slotting home under the
advancing Gary Pritchard.
Borras now looked a spent force and we had further chances via Josh,Aron and Bulla. Nathan replaced Rockon down the right, and Cian came on for Danno on 75 minutes.
Borras grabbed a lifeline on 80 minutes, and then a second on 86 minutes
with a strike in off the post,to set up a grandstand finish. But this was immediately ruined as Bulla, straight from the kick off, decided to
take on the whole Borras team, I reckon he beat 8 of them, but Danno said it was 9, before he was finally brought down on the left side of the area, which earned the Borras defender a booking.
Young Elliot took the perfect free kick to find the head of DAVID BULLOUGH who nodded into the corner of the net to seal the game. Referee
Tom Owen then ended the game to the delight of Casty players and fans.
Another incredible performance as Borras were at full strength,it did hurt us as well as Borras are good friends of ours, they were very heart
broken at the end, but Football is often a cruel game and I know that Steve Roberts will lift the lads again, they are a quality team.
But the whole Team were fantastic again today, we deserved to win the game, the young lads were a credit to the Club, Bulla was unstoppable
again, everyone competed in all over the park, if this present Team spirit had been here all season then I'm sure we would be Champions now.
However,we have to try again next season, and we now have the Cup Final
against Argoed to look forward to on Wednesday.
Difficult to choose a Man of the Match, the lads told me I can't give it
to Bulla every game, so just for a change I brought in last minute a young lad to do a certain job, and to keep the talented Barry Torrence
at bay is not an easy task, so my MoM today is Josh Price.
