Colts in shock Cup defeat
Mold Town United progress again.
Colts exited the NEWFA Cup at the First Round stage after a surprise loss to Mold Town United, who had won their Preliminary
Round game on Saturday at Rhosllanerchrugog by 3-0.
But it was a night of many missed chances and dreadful errors from the home team. And definitely no rub of the green from the
Referee Mike Woodward.
The opening exchanges were quite even, but the visitors took the lead on 13 minutes, a through ball found the striker yards offside
but missed by the Referee, and he slotted home 0-1. Nathan Davies and Dan Woosey then missed good chances to equalise, but
the visitors gained a corner, Aled caught the ball unchallenged , but then dropped it at the feet of ex-Colts player Jack Carden, who
tapped in from a yard. 0-2 on 27 minutes.
We then woke up and totally dominated moving the ball quicker and getting out wide. Rob Ward made a great run, finding himself
clear but somehow screwed his effort wide for a bad miss. He was then taken out twice on another run but incredibly there were no
free kicks awarded. HT 0-2
Second half we bombarded the visitors goal, the ball always seemed to be scrambled away, but on 52 mins Rob Ward pulled a goal
back from 10 yards. 1-2
It now seemed a matter of time before the equaliser arrived, but on 72 minutes we lost the ball in midfield, Luke's clearance was blocked
and the speedy winger got to the ball before Aled and tapped home. 1-3
From a Scott Williams corner on 84 minutes a couple of efforts were blocked, but SMUDGER forced the ball home. 2-3
Despite our efforts we were unable to get an equaliser,
A very disappointing start, our play was generally good, but to concede 3 goals in the manner we did always gives us a mountain to
climb. Mold Town were a well organised outfit, and can now look forward to a big tie on Wednesday 28 August. Our good wishes to
them for the season.
