Vital win for Ressies
Hopes rise for staying up
We featured a stronger team today as we looked for revenge against Holywell Town, who had beaten us 2-0 only 3 weeks ago.Today was a must win game if we are to survive in the Reserves League.
The game started in fine fashion for Colts as Liam Hughes advanced and slipped a pass wide to DAN SHAW who slipped the ball under the advancing keeper. The visitors were playing the ball from the back and keeping possession well, but were not really troubling Jack Gibbons in the home goal. On 17 minutes Dan Shaw hit a stunning 25 yard effort which smashed high off the inside of the post, hit the keeper on the Head! The ball went wide to Ben Bailey whose shot smashed against the bar to complete an amazing incident in the game.
But only 5 minutes later we doubled the lead when the outstanding Liam Hughes fired home from 15 yards.
This gave us confidence and we were controlling the game up to half time with few scares. HT 2-0
Holywell got a goal back on 54 minutes when Gibbo badly misjudged a cross which spooned in the air, he came too far as the strong wind played it's part and the ball crept over the line.
So now it was game on and there were one or two scary moments as the clock ticked down, however we continued to create the better chances as we saw the game through. Credit to a young Holywell team who passed the ball about really well, and never gave up.
The back four were excellent today with Steve Jones outstanding, but just gaining the Man of the Match award was the ever dangerous and hard working Liam Hughes.
We now have a chance of survival, and continue with a other home game on Tuesday night as we welcome Corwen Reserves. Kick off is at 6.30pm
