the panthers travelled to fellow group 1 side shaw cross in the first round of the yorkshire challenge cup looking to avenge an opening day league defeat.

the panthers who had all 19 players available for the game for the first time this season started well playing up hill and looked like they meant business right from the off.strong early running from josh farr, ben green, lewis edwards, dec brumby and jack appleyard set the tone and the panthers were soon on the scoresheet when quick hands from louis wilson, jakw sweeting and charlie sykes created the space for kieran martin who crossed with sweeting converting.

back came shaw cross and they regathered the ball from the kick off and caught the panthers napping outwide has they scored there only try of the game in the left hand corner 4-6.the panthers response was good and some very quick line speed was putting imense pressure on shaw cross who were finding it hard to get going forward,a forced error gave the panthers the chance to go further ahead when jake sweeting dummied his way over to score in the right hand corner and it was charlie sykes who was next to go over after getting on the end of a clever kick 4-14.rhys bonser ,ryan smith and adam brough came off the nench and made a big impression with bonser like a wrecking ball in attack whilst been very strong in defence.the panthers were unfortunate not to in at half time further ahead after giving a dominant first half.

the second half saw more of the same with the panthers getting through there sets and having a good kicking game that kept shaw cross pinned back, danny thompson field every kick with superb execution and was making a lot of yards with his returns.next to score was louis wilson who jinked his way to the line with sweeting adding the extras.rhys bonser scored to effectively kill off the game after breaking from his own 20 before turning the full back inside out he showed great pace to cross again sweeting converted 4-26.the panthers made several subs with the game in safe hands and despite shaw cross throwing everything at them the line held firm and the panthers ran out convincing winners.matt sykes, jake smith and morgan nash never put a foot wrong while dec ellis, george steel and dom child did well in there short spells.
