Villa Nemesis Too Strong for Castle
Castle come off second best for a second time against Abbey Villa
After being dumped from the cup a few weeks ago in cruel circumstances with a Castle OG with practically the last kick of the game in extra time, the lads relished their home fixture league re-match against Abbey Villa to settle old scores.
Unfortunately it was not to be and despite starting much the spritelier of the two teams, Castle's opening dominance would not last and Villa began to play. With pressure at both ends for the full 60 minutes, in the end it was Castle's failure to capitalise on their multitude of chances whilst Villa exploited theirs to the full that made the difference.
With some sterling work up front, intense midfield battles and an eager back 4, Castle looked like it might be their day. As the match developed it looked like Rory's acrobatics in goal would be tested to the full and the surging runs of the defensive unit would lead them vulnerable to counter-attack.
Callum returned from injury as Super Sub and displayed some flair with a great free kick, catching the eye of the opposition yet again to scoop the Player of the Match award. Regan's endeavour in marshalling the back 4 and leading by example in taking the game to the opposition was enough to net him the Man of the Match award.
Saul's new streamlined hairstyle and Williams strength meant that both lads are finding their feet well on the pitch and slotting in great with their new team mates.
Conor Lusty was having it large throughout and coupled with the power of Lewis' thundering kicks, Villa were feeling the heat.
Jack Shepherd was hungry for goal and had the confidence to stride forward whenever the opportunity allowed with Ryan popping up wherever you happened to look and making a nuisance of himself. Some lovely passes and lay offs to his team mates complimented his dribbling skills wonderfully and really opened up the game.
Matty P had his usual hunger of goal-mouth action with some great strikes which drifted painfully wide or demanded a skilful save from the Villa keeper.
Cameron and Ethan made things difficult for the opposition in the middle third of the pitch and would not concede an inch whilst in posession and when Jack Logan jumped from the bench to join Callum on the pitch, it looked like the balance of play would finally shift. Alas, it was not to be Castle's day and luck began to go against them as the game thundered on.
With Rory's brilliance in goal keeping Castle in the game time and again, the final score could have been worse.
A tight game (and cracker for the neutral) left the score at 3-0 to Villa and whilst on balance they deserved to win, Castle also deserved more for their efforts.
Ah well lads, mid-table seems a comfortable place to be for now and a marked improvement over last year's entry to the League and 11-a-side football. A strong base on which to build and, most importantly, the lads really look like they're enjoying their football.
