10 Player Caversham Give Tilehurst Competitive Game
With 6 players unavailable the decision to field a team of 10 against a strong Tilehurst side was validated with an excellent performance from Caversham who were unlucky not to take points from the game. Caversham were undone with two long shots, one in each half. Serena lost the first in bright sunshine and will have been disappointed to be beaten by a shot from such distance. With Daisy nursing an injury she took the goal keeper jersey for the second half and was also disappointed to be beaten by a long shot. Aside from that, the goal keepers were rarely troubled in a game of attrition played out in midfield. Caversham's back line was led by player of the match Niamh, who dealt with everything whilst cooly playing the ball out from the back. With her were Leonie, Olivia and Lianna who had another excellent game at left back. Maud battled with Daisy and then Serena in front of the back four to ensure chances for Tilehurst were few and far between. At the other end it was always going to be hard for Josie, Ruby and Evie to unlock the defence when so often it was 3 v 8 up front. However, they always threatened on the counter and had a guilt edged chance in the first half to bring the game level. Unfortunately Josie just couldn't quite finish the opportunity. In the second half Ruby caused big problems for the Tilehurst left back most notably when she got behind the defence and laid what looked to be the perfect cross for Evie, but Evie couldn't quite connect with the open goal in front of her. Josie also created another excellent chance in the second half and on another day should could have had a brace and Caversham would have had a deserved draw from the game. However, it wasn't to be and Caversham had to settle for another satisfying performance in a difficult division.
