Even with the heavy rain the Swans were in Seven heaven
4 out of 4
Caversham Swans arrived at a rain soaked Clayfield hoping to extend their 3 match winning streak against 10 player Boyne Hill. Leonie very sportingly agreed to switch sides to even things up and had a really excellent game giving the Swans defence a lot to think about with her constant movement and good ball control. The first 30 minutes were very tight with both teams threatening and the defences coming out on top - Niamh in particular kept their big centre forward in her pocket just like a fiver !! The deadlock was broken when Lally was first to react from Grace’s corner and poked the ball in. Lucy had already been terrorising their defence and they just couldn’t handle her pace and close control of the ball - it was the start of an outstanding display. As half time approached Lally broke their defensive line again and composed herself before slotting the ball home. 2 nil at half time flattered Caversham and with the rain lashing down it was essential to keep things tight. Early in the second half Lucy’s hard work paid off with two excellent quick fire goals ....... and another solid display from the entire team kept things tight. Ruby came back on as Swans rotated their subs and looked hungry and her persistence paid off as she cut in from the left and scored with a low hard shot, followed by a great one two with Grace and another clinical finish. With three players now on for their hatrick Caversham poured forward and it was Lucy who deservedly bundled the ball in from close range to make it 7. There was still time for Serena to make a very brave save to preserve the clean sheet and for Grace to hit the post and round off an outstanding performance from the team. Every player should be very proud of their performance - really solid all over the pitch.
