We provide excellent footballing development for girls in year 7. Strong year 6 girls may also join the team but are subject to approval join the team from the club's Executive Committee. There are currently 3 year 6 girls in the team.
The team currently trains on astroturf on Wednesday evenings at Highdown School, Caversham, in Reading from 16:45 to 18:00. If 16:45 is too early, starting the session at 17:00 is ok. If this time does not suit, there are other training options which some of the girls currently take advantage of. From April to September the team trains on grass at Clayfield Copse in Reading, also on Wednesday evening.
The girls take part in 9-a-side matches on Saturday mornings in the Berkshire Girls' Football League. There are also opportunities to occasionally play indoor football. From April to mid July we take part in competitive football tournaments throughout Berkshire, and occasionally in neighbouring counties. Our summer break is from mid July to mid August.
Potential new players do not need to live in the Caversham area to join the team. We currently have some capacity to accept new players. Any girls interested in joining the team are welcome to come along for a few weeks before any decision on whether to join needs to be made. All players in the team get overall equal game time on the pitch, irrespective of their ability.
The team is competitive but the focus of training and matches is on long term player development, rather than purely winning games. The girls all experience playing in different positions to some extent. We believe this develops better game intelligence and well rounded players. However, we have a high quality dedicated goalkeeper so unless players particularly want to play in goal they won't have to.
Training follows a progressive programme of learning led by an experienced FA Level 2 Coach. We aim to develop technically capable players with good decision making skills. An individual development plan can be tailored and maintained for any player in the team, if parents would like this. Our learning environment is focused, but we make it fun too. We are proud of the level of excellence we attain. We are one of the strongest teams in Division 1, so we often make the final of tournaments or cup competitions we play in.
In terms of playing kit: The girls are provided with a team shirt and shorts from our sponsor: Point of Rental Software. Parents need otherwise to supply black football socks, shin-pads, football boots all year round, and astroturf boots also between October and March.
If you are considering the team for your daughter please contact the manager, and primary coach: Paul on 07504 094 839 for an informal chat in the first instance, or alternatively email email@example.com. We look forward to hearing from you.
