Despite dominating for large periods, Cemaes came away from today’s game empty handed after three early goals and a late sucker punch left Morawelon looking firm favourites to be made League Champions.
The Reds were again unable to field their strongest team, with Dan Jones
, Danny Bull, Liam Griffiths
and Aaron Jones
all missing, although there were returns for Aaron Archi Jones and Dafydd Jones
with young keeper Craig Hughes making his first start in senior football.
Cemaes didn’t get off to the best of starts when they found themselves behind after just 35 seconds, when talented striker Dale Murphy raced onto a loose ball to chip the ball over the oncoming Craig Hughes.
The Reds regrouped and were back on level terms after five minutes when Tris Lee scored a trademark free kick from 25yards, and minutes later Rhodri Williams
and Dylan Evans combined well to muster a chance for the former to have an effort on goal which was well saved.
Things went from bad to worse in the tenth minute when a mistake from Craig in net allowed Jon Woolgar to net a simple finish, and then minutes later a routine stop was fumbled into the path of Murphy to net his second, the third goal also ended Craig’s debut after a kick to the head forced him off, with Steve Humphreys taking over the gloves and Dafydd Jones
coming on at right back with Andrew Powell
slotting alongside Sion Hughes at centre back.
Cemaes again regrouped and began to play some good football, Tris Lee was outstanding in the centre of the park winning every ball in the air and spraying some quality passes to his teammates, just behind him Darren Thomas
was grafting hard and breaking up the rare Morawelon attack, but despite all their possession and pressure they rarely threatened the keeper.
Dei Roberts was dealt another blow just after twenty minutes when after an aerial challenge, winger Liam Holland
went down injured with an ankle injury which is likely to rule him out for the rest of the season, with Alan James coming on in his place. Cemaes continued to apply pressure but couldn’t quite find the quality needed in the final third despite the effort from the front two. Tris Lee and Darren Thomas
continued to control the midfield for the remainder of the half with Steven Humphreys not even tested.
Cemaes were again forced into a change five minutes before the break when Aaron Jones
broke down with a reoccurrence of the ankle injury which has hampered him for the past couple of seasons, in his place came David Glyn.
Cemaes started the second half brightly with Lee setting the tone with some brilliant passes into Dylan and Rhodri up top, but as the game started to settle Morawelon midfielders Rocky Thomas and Ricky Lavelle began to have much more of an influence, and began using the pace on the wings to good effect.
The game was now an exciting end to end encounter, with half chances at both ends, but the next goal went to the hosts just after the hour mark when Tris Lee swung in a brilliant ball from a free kick towards the back post, where Darren Thomas
was on hand to volley the ball right footed into the roof of the net. The goal gave Cemaes renewed hope of gaining something against title challengers for the second game running and continued to push in search of the equaliser with Rhodri Williams
going close, and David Glyn working himself into a good position only to be denied a shooting opportunity by a last ditch challenge in the area.
Morawelon came close to extended their lead in the 78th minute when Dale Murphy was brought down just outside the area but saw his bullet of a free kick fly narrowly wide, but deep into injury time Morawelon regained their two goal cushion to give them a very flattering score line, when Tris Lee was dispossessed in his own half by Sean Murphy who strode forward and hit an effort from 30yeard which deceived Humphreys in goal and found its way into the back of the net via the post.
A great team performance despite the score line which sets the Reds off well for their next game away in Treaddur Bay this weekend.
