Bad day at the office!

Short match report to reflect on field matters!

CVCC – 149 all out. S Green 35, Extras 35.

Compton House 152 for 3 – M Collinge 9-2-27.

This should have been a competitive match against 2 well matched sides. Unfortunately Compton House played with a bit more nous and desire than Cerne.

Cerne asked to bat first did not apply themselves to the task in hand. Perhaps a little relaxed after facing both Profitt and Parkin in the 2 previous games the bowling felt a little less stressful. Fair to say that all 10 wickets fell to poor judgement or execution against a side who do not possess a league winning bowling attack. I am confident that this will be the low point of Cerne’s batting. 114 runs from the bat over 35 overs will just not cut it and is well below the standards set in the opening 4 games.

In the field Cerne took 3 good catches including 2 good ones from Lloyd Mitchem and 1 from Patrick Taylor. However the lack of scoreboard pressure allowed 2 good quality and experienced batters from Compton House to move comfortably towards their small target. Cerne bowlers led by the experienced Mike Collinge all bowled with endeavour and control, but wicket taking remained the necessity and most bowlers, without express pace or real guile, need the help of the scoreboard to create pressure. Earlier the batters had not created that pressure.

Onwards and upwards….next week Hamworthy at home.

Best
