Good Win Over Hurst Reserves Keeps Momentum ....
Following on from last weeks resounding win we continued our pre season progression with yet another solid win against an opposition we knew little about. Hurst came to play and made it difficult at times, we were restricted to few chances in the first period although we were clinical with them as we entered the break 2 goals up.
Our first goal came from Ben Baker following good work by Billy O'Brien who kept a deep corner alive to deliver a cross to the head of Baker only to see the keeper save the initial shot but powerless to prevent the second as Baker gets off the mark for the stabmonks. The keeper was then to deny Baker a second with a fine save however could do little to prevent Shakeem Carty adding to our tally following a superb assist by Jason Marney who twisted his marker numerous times before squaring for the unmarked Shaks to slot home, Shaks also crashed the bar with another fine effort but that was to be our lot for the half.
Numerous changes at the break killed our flow a little as our football wasn't as crisp and precise however we strangely created more chances than the first half, but hey thats football I suppose !
Chances went begging as the opposition began to tire however they did get one back following a misplaced Chalvey pass sent a Hurst forward clear and made no mistake with the finish. This was hugely against the run of play and it wasn't long before our 2 goal advantage was restored as an own goal following pressure by Elliot Horne put us 3-1 ahead with 10 mins or so to play.
Further good chances went begging but all in all a satisfactory day as we continue to blend old and new players together, our football is progressing nicely and partnerships are starting to form.
Next week we entertain Ripley Village Reserves in a game where again we know little about the opposition, it promises to be another good test for us.
