After last weeks wasted trip to junction 39 of the M1, before the game at Slazengers was finally called-off, Chap. welcomed Normanby Park, to a wind swept Hinde House. With a 3pm start, some poor sod from NP read his meet location text wrong, & arrived at 1.30!
A great cheer resounded round the home changing room, to greet the arrival of Neil "Quibbel Park" Fraser. Having played for Brig earlier, scoring a hat-trick, & scooping MOTM, he made the meet on time.
The same can't be said for Phil "Whatever" Davies, who despite a personal warning from the skipper, arrived 10 mins. late.
On the pitch, Chap were in trouble almost from the off. Feet in the D led to a short, which was repeatedly never cleared, & on the 5th attempt, NP smashed the ball in to the back of the goal.
Chap. never really got going, showing none of their usual, controlled passing, but half chances were created, & all put wide. The only ball back off the keeper led to a hectic scramble under his kickers, but no goal. However, at only 0-1 at half time it was still all to play for.
Despite substitutions, things didn't get any better, & in the gloomy light - "Colin, put 50p in t'meter" , they got worse, with NP scoring a second. Bugger! It could have been worse but for another brilliant performance from Matt "The Rock" Crump, in goal.
Then, with 15 odd minutes left to play, the game was turned on its head, with 2 goals for Chap. in 2 mins. From nowhere, the ball fell free 6 inches from the line, to find Paddy O'Berney unmarked, who pushed the ball home. Then, almost from the re-start, a ball in to the D fell to Bob again, who this time, unselfishly slipped the ball across for The Skip to grab the equaliser!
You'd have thought NP would have crumbled at their change of fortune, but no, & this led to the crucial incident of the game.
Close your eyes, step in to the Tardis, & rewind back to Shabbydale, 2 weeks ago.......................
Copy & paste: "Doc Chambers gave one of his trademark 16 hits straight to the opposition's centre forward, who promptly stormed in to the D to score".
Luckily for us, the eagle-eyed umpire spotted some "chest control" in the D, & the goal was disallowed - phew!
A final flurry from Chap. proved fruitless, & the game ended in an honourable 2-2 draw. Only time will tell with the push for promotion, wether it will be 2 expensive points dropped, or a valuable point gained!
MOTM went to a surprised & rather pleased Bob, for his goal & assist.
DOTD. As well as his tardy time keeping, Phil also decided to have a "stroppy adolecent" moment, by chucking his stick around, on the side of the pitch, shocking! (You'd never see me doing that!). Teenagers, eh! I blame the parents..............
