Intra-Club 10s Match
| Chard Gubby Bears | vs | Chard Terminators |
What a great Club Game - enjoyed by all !!!
Terminators win excellent game by just 4 runs !!!
What a brilliant game. Well played everyone.
Due to the opposition who were due to play us at U10 no longer being in the League it meant that we could have an Intra-Club game with 14 Chard players having a game rather than 8 who would have done so in a League game.
What a great game it was too - ending in a very close win for the Terminators who hit 91 runs in reply to the Gubby Bears 87 run first innings total.
Although each team had the same number of overs - 12 - the Terminators did end up with 2 extra fielders which would have made some difference that is for sure.
Anyway after the teams were selected Ryan won the toss and chose to bat with Harry and Murenn opening the innings. Both batted very sensibly as Harry hit 13, including a lovely boundary 4 without getting out, while Murenn was run out but did score 7 in a more restrained innings than she normally plays. The pair put on 27 runs for the first wicket from their 4 overs having lost just the one wicket.
Joseph, Dean, Michael and Jack D all bowled well and the fielding was sharp as shown by the run out.
Jack T and Barnaby batted really well in their time at the crease as Jack T hit 9 runs while Barnaby scored 5 in a partnership worth 24. A good bit of fielding saw Jack run out but other than that both batted very sensibly as Ethan only had 3 runs hit off his bowling while Jamie's bowling got better with a little help from the Coach.
Last pair Ryan and Monty then put on the biggest partnership (36 in total) of the innings with Monty scoring 5 runs while Ryan batted superbly well in hitting 6 terrific boundary 4s in his 28 runs. Both were out once - Monty was run-out while Alexander did something special in managing to bowl Ryan - that does not happen often.
So a final total of 87 runs was reached by the Gubby Bears for the loss of just 4 wickets - a really good effort against some decent bowling and terrific fielding.
In reply Jack D opened with Michael as Jack had to go early and their partnership was worth 28 runs with Michael hitting the ball very cleanly in making 16 with three boundary 4s and two well run 2s. Jack did get bowled twice in scoring 9 runs but they did get the team off to an excellent start.
Unusually for Ryan he had a bit of stick from Michael but Jack T and Murenn both bowled well as each clean bowled Jack D in their first over.
The 'young ones' partnership of Joseph and Ethan found runs harder to score as Joseph hit 9 and Ethan managed 7 with both losing their wicket - Ethan was bowled while Joseph's little legs did not quite beat the throw so he was run out - but they did add 16 in their alotted overs.
Harry, Monty and Barnaby all improved the more they bowled and indeed Barnaby did clean bowl Ethan in his first over.
Next pair Alexander and Jamie showed some real aggression in their hitting and running between the wickets as their partnership was worth 26. Jamie hit 8 of those while Alexander was more aggressive than we have seen before hitting the ball harder than he has ever done including whacking one huge 6 over the square leg boundary. What a shot that was !?!
Murenn again bowled well as she clean bowled Alex to have the best bowling figures of the game - 2 wickets for 14 runs conceded - well done Murenn.
Last pair Oscar and Dean needed to score 22 runs to win the game - both batted sensibly and ran between the wickets well while the Gubby Bears' fielding became a bit ragged with overthrows adding to the score.
Oscar hit 11 runs by placing the ball away from the fielders while Dean was a bit more forceful as he hit two excellent boundaries in his 13 runs. Neither looked like getting out and their 26 run partnership ensured the Terminators ended up with a total of 91 runs so winning by just 4 runs.
One very good aspect of the batting of both teams was they did not hit the ball in the air very much at all (except Alexander when he whacked that 6 of course) so no one was caught and indeed no one dropped a catch as none was/were given - terrific stuff !!!
So all in all a really great morning's cricket appreciated I am sure by all those lovely Parents who watched and clapped the excellent play.
Many thanks to the players for their, as always, brilliant behaviour and appreciation for what they receive plus a big 'Thank you' to all the Parents - in particular the 'Kitchen Staff' for making the drinks and preparing the eats.
Very much appreciated by me that is for sure - thank you all.
Sam
PS. I know it is good to play against other teams but once again this did clearly illustrate how much more each player got out of this Sunday morning in comparison with previous Sundays. 14 were able to play rather than just 8 as in a League game and there were another 4 U10s who could not play as they had other commitments.
