"Mervyn made a big impression on me in my time playing for him.

"I played for him aged 16 and he and Paul Darby brought me to Chasetown. I learnt a lot from him not just about football, but life in general.

"Merv will be missed but never forgotten. He was a great man and I will always be grateful for the times I spent with him.
