Chasetown guarantee 13th position
Chasetown ended their home league fixtures with a defeat in an end-to-end game with plenty of goalscoring chances.
There was certainly no end of season feel to the game with Leek requiring 3 points to guarantee second spot in the league.
The visitors were ahead after 8 minutes through Tyler Williams but Chasetown levelled from the penalty spot through Simon Brown on the quarter hour mark.
A near post cross from Danny Edwards was stabbed past his own goalkeeper Karl Espley at the start of the second half as Chasetown looked to end the season with a home win.
However, within three minutes of going behind, Leek equalised when former Scholar Jordan Johnson tapped home from close range after the initial chance was blocked by keeper John Bateman, wearing the number 21 shirt allowing Chris Slater to wear the number 1 shirt as an outfield player!
Leek’s top scorer, Tim Grice ended the scoring in the 66th minute with a free header but Chasetown will feel they should have had a share of the points when Francino Francis took the ball around keeper James Martin but could only hit the side-netting from a tight angle.
Chasetown are now guaranteed to finish 13th, while Leek secured the Runners Up spot and home advantage in both the play off semi-final and final should they reach it.
