Scholars make their mark from penalty spot
Chasetown are through to the next round of the Integro league cup after a spot-kick win
A thoroughly entertaining game saw plenty of chances at either end. Chasetown had, arguably, the better, fizzing plenty of them inches wide of the upright. On another night, if those had been on target, Chasetown could easily have been 4 or 5 goals to the good by the break.
Instead, the hosts led through a lovely finish from Steve Jones (no, not the one who sponsors the club with Crown Highways!) Jones nipped in between the advancing Curtis Poind and a defender and chipped the ball beyond Pond's grasp to tap into an empty net.
Chasetown levelled before the break when Will Whieldon confidently converted a penalty in first half stoppage time.
Nantwich had their better chances after the break and Pond pulled off a top save to deny a first time effort from just outside the box.
Either side could have won, neither side deserved to lose, so it was straight to penalty kicks at 90 minutes.
Jack Langston led the way for Chasetown, only for Nantwich to equalise. Will Whieldon made it 2-1 before Pond made a top save to his right to keep our advantage. When George Cater made it 3-1 and Pond saved again, Jake Lovatt fired home the winning spot kick.
