Chattanooga Rugby Football Club (CRFC) opened its spring matrix season
with a win over long time rivals Knoxville Rugby Football Club (KRFC).
The match was played at CRFC's home pitch in Rossville, GA in front of
a large crowd of family and friends with the new addition of "Women's
World", a ladies only section! Thanks to Results Physiotherapy and Kacey Hawkins for all of her pre-match work to prepare us for the game!
Nooga Red kicked off at 1:30pm to a crowd of family, friends, and a few first time spectators! Knoxville moved down the field on a string of Nooga penalties and opened up the scoring with a converted try. Nooga replied in the 12th minute with a try by wing Steven Jones. Knoxville scored again with a sixty meter break through several defenders out wide. Prior to the half closing, CRFC added two more tries through center Tom Snow. One of the tries a result of a long range run by prop Ethan Winel.
The second half began with more fluid play and an effort to cut down on penalties. Second row player Josh Jones scored his second career try in the 48th minute due to a strong run from 5 meters out. It was a hard fought game with a few minor injuries and one big injury to center Tom Snow. Hopefully his broken face heals quickly! In the 80th minute, CRFC ended the game with a win, 22-12. Ethan Winel was selected as the Southern Comfort "Man of the Match" for his penetrating runs and all around hard play. Congratulations!
Nooga Black kicked off directly afterwards and they started strong against a team comprised of Chattanooga Old Boys and Knoxville players. The team was comprised primarily of new players and they all put forth a strong effort and commitment to the game plan! Congratulations to Nick Bateman as he sped through the line to score several tries and earn the Southern Comfort "Man of the Match" award for Nooga Black.
Thank to all of our fans, sponsors and supporters. See you for our next game against Huntsville!
