Overseas Rugby

A lot of young players once they have finished there education look to go overseas in to do some back packing what we have done is build close links with clubs in New Zealand South Africa and Australia where are players can base them selves and with the assistance of the club they are helped to find work, accommodation and of course play rugby.

Below are some details of two players recently back from New Zealand and also details of the Natal Sharks Academy where 3 of our players will be attending in 2010.

Sharks Academy

The Sharks Academy, the only Full-time Rugby Academy at a professional Union in South Africa, is now in its sixth year of Operation. This partnership with the Sharks, arguably the most professional rugby union in South Africa, has very positive spin-offs in terms of the facilities and activities of the Academy as well as regular involvement of the Sharks players, coaches and management.
S.A. Rugby has endorsed and accredited the Sharks Academy Rugby Course. This recognition and announcement places the Academy very strongly in the Rugby Market and confirms the high regard that the Sharks Academy Course enjoys in rugby circles.
Professional rugby has brought with it new and higher expectations. Individuals must not only be able to perform at their physical peak, but should also be able to think strategically in order to withstand the psychological pressures attributed to the life of a professional sports person.
The Sharks Academy is designed for young people with a passion for rugby and for those who would like to make a career out of sport.

OBJECTIVES
To be a world-class professional rugby academy.
To develop young rugby talent into balanced professionals and future Sharks.
To offer a unique, well-balanced and enjoyable programme of rugby skills, conditioning training, life skills and vocational education.
To equip individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills needed for a career in the rugby industry, whether it be as a player, coach, administrator or referee.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR
Top young players who are passionate about rugby and are interested in pursuing a career in the sport, with the main focus being predominantly rugby-playing school leavers. With professional rugby becoming a very realistic career for young players, the market is an ever-increasing one. The market is not restricted to KZN or even the borders of South Africa, but include the International Rugby Fraternity.
"In the ever-changing world of professional rugby, we have recognised the importance of and need for a Rugby Academy. We would like to welcome talented young players to develop their rugby career in our unique Sharks environment, under top professional coaches, and in a great climate like Durban."
- Brian van Zyl (CEO of the Sharks)
