Tag Rugby is a fun, but competitive, non contact sport aimed at children under the age of 9. It's designed to develop the basic skills and an understanding of the rules of the senior game.
The under 8 age group is open to all children who are in school year 3. Training for the under 8’s aims to be a fun and inclusive experience which helps to develop and build on the core tag rugby skills learnt last season and help the players prepare to make the transition into contact rugby. To augment these skills, and build teamwork, the under 8's will also be playing a number of matches and festivals (please see our Fixtures & Results page NB: all fixtures are subject to change). Training is taken by volunteer parents who are CRB checked, with coaching experience including RFU Level 1, IRB Rugby Ready, Tag rugby training and first aid skills. The training is constantly reviewed and planned, with a real focus on fun and inclusion for all.
Training is at Coronation Park and starts at 09:30am (please arrive before 09:15 in order to register) every Sunday, it lasts for 1 1/2 hours and is situated at the far end of the 1st XV pitch. Parents/carers are requested to remain at the session with their children. For newcomers, the first three sessions are free so you can ensure that tag rugby is right for your child, and then you will be required to join Chelmsford Rugby Football Club. Players will also need to be RFU registered to play in matches, and so it is advisable to have all the registration documents completed as early as possible. If you require forms you can contact us in advance, rather than wait until training starts.
Players are required to wear the official Chelmsford Rugby kit (shirt, shorts & socks) which can be purchased from Fenton Sports. For details see www.fentonsports.com. They should also wear either boots or trainers depending on ground condition. A wet weather top, a hat and gloves (especially in the winter months) are also advisable. An appropriate drink in a sports bottle should also be brought for drinks breaks.
All other training equipment is provided.
Our main method of communication is by email, so please ensure you have provided us with an email address you have regular access to. This season we will also be using this website more so please keep checking back for updates on training, match fixtures and festival details.
